Training Security Guards

If you are tasked with training security guards it’s important to remember a few things:

1) Not all guards have formal education in security and may lack a lot of relevant experience. As such, be very clear about what you are communicating.

2) Whatever you say should be written down, especially if it’s important and procedural. Many companies and training managers forget that if it isn’t written a secuirty guard can quite easily say–and often do–that no one told them of the policy. Go a step further and have all guards who are trained sign whatever documentation there is.

3) Not all  guards learn in the same way. It’s important to make sure whomevever you are speaking to comprehends what you are saying. This may seem obvious but it’s often forgotten. An easy to way to test to ensure retention is to ask the guard you are speaking to to repeat what you said or, perhaps more politely, ask them why they think the rule or policy that you just reviewed is

Become A Security Guard

Become A Security Guard
Many individuals who pursue a degree in criminal justice choose to become security guards. Besides enjoying a higher salary, many security officers have a more stable work environment than that of police officers. Some security jobs provide opportunities to learn advanced technical skills such as working with advanced surveillance equipment.

Although some security guard positions may be mundane with routine perimeter walks and video surveillance monitoring, the positions require individuals to stay on guard all the time and to be conscientious of things out of the ordinary. Security guards often work closely with the police when there is an incident and often provide valuable surveillance footage as well as witness accounts.

Private security companies may provide unarmed or armed security in uniform or plainclothes. They may provide electronic security surveillance or vehicle inspection and bomb detection. They may also offer executive and personal protection
